Nail fungus Treatment reviews

Nail Fungus treatment can be classified either with the viewpoint of the application process, or the type of product used.

We can classify the application process in two categories:

Topical application

It describes the product application process to the skin or the nail, also used for other fungi infections, as athlete foot, ringworm, jock itch and other tinea infections.

  • The product is absorbed by the skin and acts superficially. This is generally convenient for many of the skin fungi diseases, but often not sufficient in the case of nail fungus, because the nail tissues are harder and the fungi reside under the nail itself.
  • Two topical products however are relatively effective to nail fungus: Penlac and Tea Tree Oil

Oral treatment

  • It's a product which is ingested and then diffuse by the blood in all the body tissue.
  • Two forms generally exist: capsules and solution. When available, the solution is more effective.
  • The advantage of the oral treatment is that it leaves no area to the fungus to escape to the treatment.
  • For example, terbinafine (Lamisil Tablet) accumulate in the skin, the hairs and the nails. It's why it is more effective.

And we can classify the products in three categories:

Pharmaceutical remedies

  • They are precise medications, approved by the FDA to treat a specific disease
  • the main effective product actually used is Terbinafine, which is marketed under the Lamisil Trademark by Novartis Pharmaceutical.
It's a recent product, more effective and lower toxic than the old products. It exist under topical (Lamisil Cream) and oral forms (Lamisil Tablet).
  • Griseofulvin and Itraconazole are other products used better for skin and hair infections, but not so effective than terbinafine and much toxic for a nail fungus, which require a rather long treatment

Natural remedies

  • They are remedies known to help for a specific disease, but not approved as medications by the FDA. This happen either because the effectiveness was not proven, or because there is no laboratory protocol to show the effectiveness of the products
  • In this category, we find Tea Tree Oil, Leucatin

Home remedies

They are product not initially intend to treat the specific disease which interests you, but where the common use found an effectiveness about this disease.

In this category, we find Vicks Vaporub, Apple Cider Vinegar and Hydrogen Peroxide which can improve your nail fungus.
